To-do list overload. 21DSD Days 10 and 11

Ever feel like you've taken on too many responsibilities?  It's kind of how I live my life, at least during the school year.  I stretch myself pretty thin.  I'm kind of regretting the lazy day I had on Sunday....clearly, I should have been working on something instead because Monday and Tuesday were bears.  Unfortunately, this blog isn't the highest on that priority list right now, but I wanted to make sure to at least give you my food intake. you go....if I can remember it...

Breakfast: buffalo chicken egg casserole and green banana
Lunch: Leftover pork chop and cauliflower
Dinner: Leftover pork chop and brussel sprouts
snacks: pistachios and cashews

Breakfast: bacon and eggs
Lunch: Leftover pork chop and brussel sprouts
Dinner: Chipotle--my own little paleo bowl: lots of veggies, beef, lots of mild salsa, and guacamole.
snacks: pistachios and cashews (I went to Sam's club.... I have a lot of pistachios and cashews)

Too lazy for two posts. 21DSD Day 8 and Day 9

It's a two-for-one deal today.  It's Monday morning and I'm posting about the entire weekend.  You'd think that'd make it long....but considering most of my Sunday was spent on the couch watching Jewish classics (Schindler's List and Fiddler on the Roof...just a strange coincidence that Fiddler was on right after I finished Schindler's List), there's not much to say.

Em and I tried out a Boxing 101 class on Saturday at Title Boxing b/c we bought Groupons for it.  It was so much fun!  It also kicked my ass.  I'm still hurting because of that stupid class.  It was an incredible workout for sure, though.  I just wish the gym membership wasn't so expensive sans Groupon.

Saturday night was spent listening to the incredible band, Kentucky Knife Fight.  One of my brother's best friends from high school is in the band.  Here's a video of them, enjoy!

Sunday really was a lazy day.  I taught the FPU class at church, went to the 11:00 service, drove to the grocery store and sat in the parking lot for a minute before I decided it was too cold and I was too tired to actually walk in.  So, I drove home and hung out on the couch for a (long) while.

Here's what I remember eating this weekend:

Breakfast: deer tenderloin and cauliflower
No lunch, but snacks of pistachios and cashews and maybe something else, I don't know
Dinner: Steak, carrots, green beans, and asparagus from McGurk's.

Breakfast: the rest of the deer tenderloin, cashews
Lunch: more of that buffalo chicken egg casserole stuff
Dinner: Pork chops and brussel sprouts (I was hoping to share the recipes that I kind of threw together for you, but they weren't that good, so I'm not).
Snacks: cashews, that pumpkin pie in a mug recipe from way back when that I shared...but of, of course, I left out the maple syrup, which made it taste very bland. So, I threw half of it away.

Sorry for the lack of creativity today.  It's Monday and there are currently 26 emails in my work inbox.  Yay.

So I have a thing for Jennifers. 21DSD Day 7

I think Jennifer Lawrence (aka, Katniss Everdeen) and I could be best friends.  I've been sitting in bed just watching clips of her on youtube and the chick cracks my sh*t up.  Not to mention, this meme (who named "memes" is an acronym?) kills me every time:

It has made me not hate the song as much as I do.  Anyway, did you see her with Jack Nicholson at the Oscars?

Funny funny stuff.  I'm realizing that I have a new girl crush.  I apparently have a thing for Jennifers.  It might be egotistical.  Or maybe Jennifers are just awesome.  Wait, that also sounds egotistical.   Anyway, here's my other Jennifer crush:

So....yeah....maybe I should talk about my food now.  Yeah, I'll do that....tonight I used my handy dandy grill pan to grill some venison tenderloin to medium rare.  Holy balls.  It was amazing.  I probably ate more than my fill, but I don't care.  So worth it.  

OH!  And, I finally went to bed before 10 last night.  This morning was the first morning in a while I woke up and was actually awake and felt ready to workout (which did not go as body is not loving running right now.  I'm hoping it's because it's all on a treadmill and that it will be so much better when I get outside).  But yeah, so important, people.  Sleep is so damn important.  

Here's the breakdown of the day:

Lunch: buffalo chicken egg casserole
Dinner: deer tenderloin and cauliflower
Snack: celery and medium wing sauce at BWW (I realize that the sauce was probably not completely sugar free, but I went with it anyway.  I only had a tiny bit and it made the celery so much yummier!)

Thoughts on the detox thus far. 21DSD--Day 6

This detox is seems so much different than the last time.  First off, it is sooo much easier.  I was kind of surprised by how easy it was to cut sugar out of my diet this time around, especially considering I was pretty much splurging on it in the weeks prior.  This time, however, it was nothing.  However, this time around, I've been more tired.  BUT.  I know why....I'm simply not getting enough sleep.  I'm getting about five of sleep each night.  That's not even close to being enough.  A big part of this Paleo lifestyle is getting an adequate amount of sleep.  I'm not practicing that right now at all and I really need to fix it.  I can absolutely guarantee that when I fix that, I'm going to feel amazing.  No doubt about it.  Even though the energy level isn't where it should be, I can still see my body changing and that's pretty damn awesome.  I'm excited to get the sleeping thing in check and feel good all around.  Plus, my workouts are always so much better after a good night's sleep.  Learn from my mistake--get plenty of sleep!

I brought some browned breakfast sausage, eggs, and my tomato marinara stuff to school in hopes of making some microwaved scrambled eggs.  Have you all had microwaved scrambled eggs?  That's all I knew as a kid.  Largely, we were a fried egg family, but if we wanted them scrambled, into the microwave they went.  Probably weird to others, but normal to me.  Anyway, I made them in a mug a student gave me (she got tired of me using a mug that had cows in sunglasses and black hats that said, "The Moos Brothers" can you get tired of that??).  Looked like this:

It was okay.  Honestly, a little salt would have made it so much better, but I didn't have any.  I ate most of it, but had to throw some of it out.  Then, to keep my office from smelling like eggs all day, I switched out my trash can with the one in the little hallway outside of my office.  I'm crafty.

My friend Jessica sent me this recipe for Buffalo Chicken Egg Muffins and I had to try it today.  I changed it up a bit....almost doubled it and made it an egg casserole b/c who the hell wants to clean out a muffin tin when there aren't cupcakes involved?  Not this girl.  I also used a regular onion b/c it's what I had and Frank's Hot Sauce and butter b/c those things are amazing.  All in all, it was pretty good.  I'm pretty sure adding cheddar cheese would have made it unbelievable....but....that's a no no right now.

Denny's > Workout 21DSD Day 5

I'm pretty sure everything I've eaten today was an animal product.  Yep...pretty positive.  I need some freaking vegetables in my diet.

Kelly and I workout out the high school weight room and of the two of us, I'm the only one that has a key.  Well, this morning I forgot that key.  I live too far away to go get it and after a decent search for a custodian, we realized that our workout just wasn't happening.  Kelly had the brilliant idea of getting breakfast and I had the brilliant idea of having that breakfast at Denny's (one of the few options at 5:40 a.m.).  I had four eggs over easy and four slices of bacon.  In other words, I had the perfect Paleo breakfast.  It was delicious.  Denny's has some pretty incredible bacon.  One day, I want to walk into a diner and quote Ron Swanson.  There will probably have to be alcohol involved, though.

I was not super impressed by the eggs, but I'm rarely impressed by eggs from restaurants or grocery stores.  My parents have chickens so most of my eggs come from them.  If you've never had "farm fresh" eggs, you should try to get ahold of some.  They are SO much better than the cheapest dozen you can find at Wal-Mart.

Here's my meat-filled day.  I swear, tomorrow I will have more veggies.  No, really.  I promise.

Breakfast: bacon and eggs
Snack: deli turkey
Lunch: deli turkey (yes, again. don't judge, it's easy and delicious)
Snack: leftover hamburger
Snack: pork rinds and pistachios (hey.....there was a non animal product!)

You'll notice that I had no dinner.  That was a combination of not being super hungry (probably b/c I had a hamburger for a "snack" after school) and being to lazy to cook food.  Well, it wasn't all laziness, I was also working on some convention planning (I'm planning a convention...heaven help us) and got a little into my work.  By the time I finished, I definitely wasn't making anything and just had some pistachios before I went to bed.

Shortest post ever. 21DSD Day 4

I don't have time to write much much sh*t to, here's my food for the day:

Breakfast: Leftover hamburger and that marinara side dish thing
Snack: mixed nuts
Lunch: Leftover tilapia filets from Sunday
Dinner: Deli turkey, the marinara thing, and pork rinds.

Anyone else thing I need more veggies? too....

Sweet potatoes? We're on a break. 21DSD Day 3

I think I need some more sleep...I've been getting to bed way too late recently.  Better fix that sh*t.

The first time I detoxed, my normal routine would be to get up, work out, and then eat a baked sweet potato for breakfast.  I tried that this morning.  Fail.  Well, not a total fail, my workout with Kelly (I always called her Dr. D....I'm just going to call her's her was awesome.  I found a Workout of the Day (WOD) app that shuffles through a virtual deck of playing cards.  Here was our workout for all 52 cards (well, 54 with the jokers).  Ass kicker.  It was great.

I actually did the same workout (but different jokers) with the track boys at practice today too....they were quite whiney about it, but I kind of get it.  It was hard.

Anyway....the failing part.  The sweet potato.  A couple of weeks ago (on my birthday of all things), I caught either a stomach bug or I got food poisoning.  I had sweet potatoes that morning.  I learned this morning, the hard way, that sweet potatoes and I are not really friends right now.  We're on a break.  I had half of the potato and had to throw the rest away.  That was enough.

I had some cashews for a snack...apparently, I had a lot of cashews for a snack, because by the time lunch came around, I wasn't hungry at all.  Since a big part of this detox is simply just eating when you're hungry, I didn't eat anything.  By the time school was out, I was hungry again and had some salami that was in my fridge at work.  I guess it was kind of my lunch?  I ate it on the way to track practice b/c I'm a classy son of a b*tch.

When I got home, I used my grill pan to make some burgers.  I also made something that I guess was kind of a marinara sauce, but I just ate it plain because I didn't really care.  We'll just call it a side dish.  Yeah, that's what it was:

Jen's Tomato Side Dish That Would Go Really Well On Things That Go Well With Marinara Sauce
1 red pepper, chopped
1 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cans of fire roasted tomatoes
Salt and pepper to taste

Soften the veggies in the olive oil over medium heat, turn the heat to low and add the tomatoes, salt, and pepper.  Let them all stew together for a while.  The end.  Delicious and easy.

My food:
breakfast: half a sweet potato that made me want to vomit
snack: cashews
late lunch: salami
dinner: hamburger (no bun, of course) and the above side dish
drinks throughout the day: water and peppermint herbal tea
